About
This experimental project brings together graphic design, handcrafting, and music. Drummers form an essential part of every band, and most Western music albums we hear on the radio or through online streaming services feature a steady drum presence in the background. Owing to its widespread use, different companies and producers are trying to meet the drum market needs for not only the instrument itself, but accessories that help keep them in good condition, enhancing the overall experience of drumming.
Riff is a conceptual brandmark that seeks to establish itself within the highly specialised yet significant market of drum accessories, aiming to give this often-overlooked field a distinct visual and cultural identity. The accessories are meant to be used by both beginner and professional drummers.
The Power of Visual Graphics
A brand of this kind requires a strong graphical toolkit to promote and advertise its products effectively. The chosen colours—light orange, dark grey, and white—capture the spirit of drumming.
When looking at an acoustic drum kit, the cymbals appear goldish, the drumheads are often white, and the body, while variable in design, frequently reflects metallic tones. The Rockwell typeface was selected for its close connection to the visual language of Rock & Roll album covers and posters, reinforcing the brand’s musical roots. The logo takes inspiration from the forte symbol in music, which can also be read as a sign of projecting one’s voice outward through sound, energy, and rebellion.
The fabric design tries to mimic the existing patterns in nature, such as rock and river. This can soften the brand aesthetics and give it a more pleasant look.
