About
Grandma’s House is a fictional brand that addresses chromophobia, the fear of colour, and the dominance of excessive minimalism in modern design, particularly in interior spaces. The project explores how designers can restore warmth, emotion, and personality by embracing colour, pattern, and fine details rather than suppressing them. It suggests ways to listen to what colours communicate and how to use them thoughtfully within contemporary design practice.
The concept of “Grandma” was chosen because it evokes nostalgia, comfort, and familiarity. Across different cultures, the idea of a grandmother is tied to warmth, handcrafted objects, and homes filled with memory and individuality. This emotional connection makes Grandma’s House a relatable and universal idea that invites people to reflect on how design can preserve intimacy and human presence.
The design is intentionally charming and inclusive, drawing inspiration from Iranian, Arabian, and Latin cultural aesthetics. Each element carries a sense of familiarity and warmth, celebrating the decorative richness and fluidity shared across these visual traditions. There are no sharp edges or rigid lines, only rounded and smooth forms that create a sense of comfort and visual harmony, inviting the viewer to linger.
The typeface is a serif style reminiscent of retro letterforms, evoking a touch of nostalgia while maintaining a refined elegance. The colour palette features warm and soft tones, enhancing the feeling of approachability and emotional depth.
